In the centre stands an American man of gigantic appearance wielding a tomahawk. He is about to attack a midget representing John Smith (1580-1631); a midget Pocahontas pleads for mercy for him. On the right, other midget Indians look on. In the background, a Virginian landscape with tepees or wigwams
