About this work
Description
Have we got the right balance between hearts and minds? Should politicians appeal to reason or to the emotions? Issues such as cloning, the environment, abortion, capital punishment, vaccination and animal welfare polarise opinion. Baroness Warnock advocates reason and scientific expertise in making decisions on cloning. Robert May respects votes and the feelings of the majority, at the time. Martha Nussbaum discusses emotional intelligence. Politicians are now more likely to be lip-tremblers rather than having a 'stiff upper lip', but emotion can be misused.
