Home-made health promotion materials on trachoma

This Ethiopian woman and man are showing slogans on health promotion posters which they have written themselves. Community members can write effective health promotion messages that take into account their own cultural context and are in the local language. Community participation contributes to project sustainability because it is the community who will implement any control measures. Left hand poster: 'If you keep your body and your surroundings clean, you can prevent trachoma.' Right hand poster: 'As soon as your eye starts hurting, you should go immediately to the local health centre.'
