    TO THE READER. Perhaps you may marvel^ that I have not placed them in better order, and that things of like matter are not joined together. Truly, there are fo many of fo divers and fundry forts, and contrary ejfefts, that it could not be altogether obfervecL And in my judg- ment, through theJlrangenefs and variety of matter, it will be more de/iroufly and deligh fully read; knoiving we are made of fuch a mould, that delicate daintinefs delights us much, but we are loath to be fed too long with one food; and that long walking, in Jlrange, pleafant, and contrary places, will leffer weary us, than Jhort travel in often-trodden ground. This work might have been framed with finer phrafes (more deleftable to fome, though not fo meet for many), but that it is better to profit a greater jort, than to feed the fancies of a few \ well afjured, that the learned Eloquent can better perceive plain fpeeches, than the flenderly Learned, and common fort, can un- derfund eloquent difcourfes.
