About this work
Description
As the government prepares to offer more funding and independence to GP practices, secret filming of a team of undercover patients to a number of health clinics shows how patients' lives are being put at risk by failing doctors. A series of actors are trained to visit certain GP practices with 'red flag' symptoms that should alert the GPs to the possibility of a serious condition. We also hear from patients whose lives have been cut short by the GP not making a correct early diagnosis. Dame Janet Smith describes how the GMC is too lenient with GPs. The programme uncovers the case of Dr Shippers who, despite being taken to court over the death of a three-year-old boy, is not known by the GMC and continues to practice. Two GPs describe how they became whistle blowers after being employed by a GP that they thought was seriously failing.
