Segment 1 The intertitles explain that a stoma must be closed by surgery when it has finished its purpose of draining the colon of obstructing waste. An incision is made around the stoma, with the intertitles giving detailed instructions. The skin flaps are dissected up towards the stoma and then sutured together to prevent the escape of faecal matter. The caecum is dissected until the peritoneum is exposed. The bowel is double clamped. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:04:43:15 Length: 00:04:43:15
Segment 2 The clamped portion of the bowel is trimmed. The two crushed portions of the bowel are sewn together. The clamps are removed and the bowel pushed in. A gut drain is inserted into the wound and the abdomen incision is sutured closed. Time start: 00:04:43:15 Time end: 00:09:27:09 Length: 00:04:43:19
