About this work

Description

This is perhaps the device of Hortense Eugénie de Beauharnais [1783-1837] afterwards wife of Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland. [Cf. Guigard. 'Nouvel armorial du Bibliophile' 1890. Vol. I, p. 123]. There seem to be very few entries before about 1810, and they are by different hands. The latest dated entry is 1817 on the 15th leaf. There are a few miscellaneous household and other receipts, but the contents of the volume consists mainly of anecdotes and literary quotations, etc.
