Description
The peace treaty was made in January 1709, hence "The joyous January". It is here regarded as the beginning of the end of the War of Spanish Succession. On the right, France sleeps. Below, a vignette shows the self-declared King Charles III of Spain (Archduke Charles, subsequently Emperor Charles VI) being recognized as King of Spain by the Pope
