Description
Described by Chaloner Smith as William Holme, half-length, sitting, directed and facing slightly to left, looking to front, white cravat, dark coat buttoned. Holme not further identified. Described as "M.D." on mount of one of the impressions catalogued, but this has not been confirmed. Not the William Holme listed as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1854 (the present sitter was born much earlier); not a member of the Edinburgh College of Surgeons either (letter from Dorothy U. Wardle, Librarian, 20 March 1970)
